What Else Samuel L. Jackson Would Like To Explore From Nick Furys Past
Throughout the MCUs 11-year history and 20 films thus far, Samuel L. Jacksons Nick Fury has been a thread that has run through just about all of them starting with the end credits scene in Iron Man when the director of S.H.I.E.L.D teased the Avengers Initiative. With the upcoming release of Captain Marvel, fans will get to know a younger Fury--before he donned an eyepatch and an often stone-cold expression.
During the Captain Marvel press junket in Los Angeles, I had the chance to speak with Samuel L. Jackson about his iconic role. He said he definitely has curiosities about Fury that have yet to be explored and he revealed some of those to us. But don't take my word for it. Check it out yourself.
Yes! Theres a lot more to Nick Fury then meets the eye and after some of his origin story is introduced alongside Brie Larsons Carol Danvers in Captain Marvel, fans will undoubtedly be intrigued to learn more about his past. In this interview with CinemaBlend, Samuel L. Jackson offered some interesting points in his timeline for the MCU to consider. Take another look before we break them down:
Part of his service record and also the fact that he was a spy for a while. Where was he, what was he doing, how did he meet this particular person?... He met Natasha through the whole spy thing, Id like to explore that a bit. Id also like to know what he was doing after Winter Soldier when they said go to Europe and find out whats going on.
Wheres Nick Furys three-picture deal at? Wed love to see all of these! Samuel L. Jackson first referenced his characters service record and time as a spy, which is set up in a recent clip from Captain Marvel between Fury and Danvers as they get to know each other. As he noted, straight out of high school he became a solider and then transitioned into becoming a spy.
There are certainly a lot of interesting stories within that time of his life that could be explored. As he pointed out, sometime during that time he met Natasha Romanoff, a.k.a. Black Widow. Since, Scarlett Johanssons badass Avenger is soon getting her own solo film, if it tackled her origin, it would be a great place for Furys spy past to be further explored.
Samuel L. Jackson also talked about Furys storyline at the end of Captain America: Winter Soldier. In the 2014 film, Fury fakes his own death amidst S.H.I.E.L.Ds infiltration by HYDRA. The end of the movie has Fury burning remnants of his past and fleeing to Europe to be a free-agent spy. A continuation of what Fury does next would be a perfect place to explore Fury in his own space.
As Captain Marvel will show, there are a lot of unanswered questions we have about Nick Furys past and another side to him then weve seen thus far. Captain Marvel comes to theaters on March 8, but be sure to look into more about the movie with our full guide before you head into theaters.
