Creepy New Pet Sematary Photos Make Us Terrified Of Cats
There are few novelists quite as iconic and prolific as Stephen King. As such, the horror writer's iconic works are constantly being adapted for TV and film, with both IT and Hulu's Castle Rock being recent hits. But the fur will fly with the upcoming remake of Pet Sematary, which is set to arrive next year. Fans are eager for more information, and some new images were just released-- a day before the film's trailer is set to arrive.
Well, this certainly hits the nail on the head. Horror fans are eager to see the reanimated creatures wreak havoc, and the above image is our first look at a zombie cat. While still small and relatively cuddly, it's clear that what's new pussycat is absolutely nothing good. It's likely that this cat actually belongs to the family in which Pet Sematary revolves around. In both the novel and original movie, it's the surprise resurrection of their cat Church from its grave in the titular cemetery that puts the plot in motion.
Animals have always been a creepy part of Stephen King lore, but Pet Sematary and Cujo remain the writer's most iconic pet-driven properties. Both have already been made into movies before, coming out in 1989 and 1983 respectively. The pressure is on to deliver a new Pet Sematary as good as the original, although the massive success off IT may have helped open some minds.
Next up we see Amy Seimetz's Rachel Creed, who should be one of the film's protagonist. Rachel moves to a new town with her family in the movie, and soon finds that country life sometimes includes zombified animals. She's seen holding her small child Gage, who typically has a fascinating and terrifying affect on the story that changes the course of Pet Sematary forever.
It should be interesting to see how closely the new Pet Sematary follows Stephen King's novel of the same name, and how many creative liberties are ultimately taken by directors Kevin Klsch and Dennis Widmyer. Gage's plot line will likely remain untouched, as it catapults the overall story into further chaos.
In this photo we see a glimpse of the great John Lithgow, who will play friendly neighbor Jud Crandall. From the looks of things, it seems that he'd helping Louis Creed (Jason Clarke) figure out the mysterious of Pet Sematary. Lithgow is the biggest start in the small cast, and is also the only main character who isn't a member of the Creed family. He'll help give the project some star power which, combined with the Stephen King mania currently taking hold, will amp up excitement for the upcoming adaptation.
These first images are sure to help satiate the appetites of cinephiles who can't wait to hear more about Pet Sematary. Luckily for them, there's more zombie animal goodness coming in the near future. The film's first trailer will finally arrive tomorrow, and show how the upcoming movie handles its resurrected creatures, and the creepy world created by Stephen King.
