Watch Natalie Portman Rap About Jar Jar Binks And Star Wars Prequels In SNL Skit

The Star Wars prequels are long beyond us now that we have new Star Wars movies releasing yearly, but they are not typically looked upon quite as favorably as either the new or original trilogy. Despite having strong performers like Samuel L. Jackson, Ewan McGregor and Natalie Portman in all three movies, the prequels are not regarded as good movies. Portman has been in plenty of great movies since her Padme days, but she still occasionally has to put up with Star Wars comments and questions. She's having none of that in a new sketch from Saturday Night Live in which she hardcore raps about Jar Jar Binks. Check it out.

12 years ago, Natalie Portman appeared in one of the earliest SNL Digital Shorts in which she rapped about what a straight-up murderer she was during an interview with Chris Parnell. The Lonely Island-produced video is a bonafide SNL classic and it's hard to believe that it took the show this long to make a true sequel. Portman hosted SNL the other night and between making fun of Stranger Things and the New England Patriots, she once again rapped her heart out about what a bad ass she is.

While breaking things and putting a dildo on a switchblade, Natalie Portman defended the Star Wars prequels. Dressed in full Queen Amidala costume and makeup, Portman demanded a man to say something nice about the prequels while pointing a gun at him. Then she made him say something positive about Jar Jar Binks ("he's tall?") before having him kiss Jar Jar's 17 dicks. So, stop asking her about the prequels, you guys!

For those curious, The Lonely Island did indeed write "Natalie's Rap 2." The group confirmed on Twitter that they wrote the song in Los Angeles on Thursday and then SNL shot with Portman in New York City on Friday. Andy Samberg, who made a brief return for a cameo in the video, was filmed in Los Angeles.

While this sequel -- like most SNL sequels -- didn't live up to the original, it's still a pretty fun video. It was never going to have the surprise factor of hearing Natalie Portman, who in 2006 was still seen as a "nice girl," hardcore rap about her thug lifestyle. Joss Whedon Has Clarified Why He Left DC's Batgirl Project

It's going to be a week filled with Marvel and, more specifically, Avengers content. Joss Whedon is one man who has dipped his toes into both Marvel and DC ponds. Last night, he was at the Avengers: Infinity War premiere, and he took a few minutes to explain what happened with the Batgirl-oriented DC movie he used to be attached to. Whedon has since quit the project, and now he has clarified exactly what went down leading to his tough decision. He said:

You know, I felt it had been a year since I had first pitched the story. A lot happened in that year. And I felt some of the elements might not work as well. And the story kind of just crumbled in my hands. There were elements that I just hadn't mastered that I, after a long time, felt like I wasn't going to. So, I told people I didn't have an idea, which isn't the exact truth. I had an idea. It just sort of didn't fit in the space that was left for it.

Previously, Joss Whedon announced he was quitting the Batgirl movie in a message to potential audiences and fans. At the time, he said he was leaving the movie project because he "didn't really have a story." Now, on the red carpet for Avengers: Infinity War, Joss Whedon revealed to Variety that he wasn't telling the truth, or at least the whole truth and nothing but the truth when he made his initial statement a few weeks ago. Instead of quitting because he said he didn't have a story, he actually says he quit because his story wasn't working, or at least elements of it weren't working. He also mentions that some facets of the story "might not work as well," which makes me wonder if this has something to do with some of the other DC projects that are currently in development over at Warner Bros. Maybe what he wanted to do didn't gel within the overall DCEU. It also should be noted that Whedon spent some time working on Justice League after Zack Snyder ceded the project, and the end result wasn't as satisfactory at the box office as Warner Bros. likely hoped, although that may not have led to Joss Whedon's ultimate decision.

Previously, Joss Whedon also revealed he had "failed" at making another mark in the DC Universe, and now he has elaborated a little bit further, talking about how his decision to leave the project was truly "heartbreaking." He said:

It was a little heartbreaking, because I was so excited about it.

The end result is that Batgirl now has a new writer and is moving forward in a new direction. This isn't atypical for the studio, either. Over the past few years, DC has announced quite a few projects. Thus far, only a handful of these have come to fruition, while other projects, including the Batgirl-fronted movie and The Flash-fronted movie, have yet to move forward into production, and some, like the project listed in this article, have had trouble keeping a director attached. Currently, we know Aquaman and Shazam are definitely happening, and Wonder Woman 2 has a release date and Patty Jenkins attached. Flashpoint also has directors, and hopefully they will stick. Other movies have been announced but aren't officially coming together yet. You can take a full look at our list of what DC will hopefully eventually have coming, here.

In the meantime, Joss Whedon may not have a Batgirl movie coming up, but he does generally tend to keep busy. We'll keep you updated on what comes next for the director, writer and producer.
